Your fibre optic cabling could last you for over 25 years, which is why it's important to get it right from the start. Technology and IT changes constantly, so it's important to ensure that your network has been designed and installed with flexibility and growth in mind.
WHAT IS FIBRE OPTIC CABLING?
A data cable allows baseband transmissions to flow from a transmitter to a receiver, such as ethernet cables, networking media and optical fibre cables.

Data cables are important for businesses, as they can be required for several reasons, including PCs/Servers, BMS systems/Access Control/WiFi Access Points, CCTV or analogue or digital phone systems.

Usually, during data cable installation, the cables will be hidden behind walls or in ceiling panels, to keep the office space safe. In fact, you won’t even know that the cables are there!

BEFORE STARTING YOUR FIBRE OPTIC CABLE INSTALLATION
Before we can make a start installing your cables, we will have a full consultation with you, so we know what kind of work is involved.

The scale of the job will differ depending on whether it’s a new building, or an existing building that needs new wiring or additional cabling.

We’ll assess your plans, to ascertain the scale of the building and proposed cable routes. This is because copper Ethernet cables have a maximum distance of 90 metres – so anything above this requires a fibre connection.

Fibre is used to join your main Communications Cabinets to your remote Comms Cabinets; multimode fibre can run up to 400 metres at speeds of 40GB+, but anything above 550 metres will require single mode fibre.

How many fibre optic cables and cores do you need?
We will discuss how many fibre optic backbone cables and how many cores you will need and where you would like them installing.

What type of building needs cabling?
We'll discuss the fabric of your building, as we will need to know if cables can be run above any false ceilings or under any false flooring.

What network speeds you require?
This will help inform the decision on what type of cabling is required. That might be multimode OM1/OM2/OM3/OM4 or OM5 or sinlemode OS2.
Each different type provides different speeds and levels of reliability, where the cable is less affected by interference. As you can imagine, there are differences in cost. We can advise on what is most suitable for you premises.

What sort of containment you will require?
We'll need to know what kind of containment we will need to install for instance, dado, metal conduits, plastic trunking or floor boxes.

When does the work need to be completed by?

We need to clarify when you need the job done by – whether that’s a matter of months, weeks or days. We know that adding new data cables, or updating existing cabling, can be disruptive and messy, so we’ll also establish whether out of hours or weekend work will be required

We also need to establish whether there’s any hazardous materials in the building such as asbestos before we start work.

Once these questions have been answered, we can then arrange a date to visit your venue and conduct a survey, where we’ll investigate the layout & possible cable runs & Comms Cabinets for your site. From there, we’ll provide you with a quote for our fibre optic cable installation service, and if you agree, we will arrange an installation date.
